The 40' model retracts to 96" and extends to 40' or anywhere in between. We recommend this pole be guyed to maintain stability during certain applications. There are six sections, with the bottom section 2.0 inches outside diameter, each subsequent section is 1/4" smaller in size, and the top mast is .75 inches. All measurements are outside diameter. The sections are hollow with a wall thickness of approximately 1/8th of an inch. You extend the sections by twisting the upper section of the "Sure Lock" handle counter clockwise until reaching the desired height. Each extend-able section is fitted with stop markers to prevent overdraw when opening the Wonder Pole. Secure the sections by twisting the "Sure Lock" handle clockwise.

Each section is nested inside of the other and has a friction stop marker to prevent overdraw. We fit each section with a "Sure Lock Grip" which tightens down on the section above to keep the pole at the desired height, and allows for variable heights without the use of holes and pins. The precision engineering of the Wonder Pole allows for effortless, quick extension and retraction of the sections. No assembly is required and there are no tools needed to use the pole.

I have both the 40' and the 30' and have successfully used them on a G5RV and a Caroline Windom 80m. If you experience winds, you may guy the ends.
